This museum is designed to help explore some of the changes that our nation went through and explain why Greensboro was at the forefront of the Civil rights movement and why this struggle for equal rights was so important for our great country. As you explore the museum, you will be able to see some of the stories and the historical facts about this significant time in American as well as Greensboro history.

 

Permanent Galleries to Explore

 

There are several permanent galleries that visitors can explore when they come to the museum. Each of these will reveal something crucial to the story of the Civil Rights movement. Sometimes these exhibits do change, but one that is a permanent fixture is The Battlegrounds.

 

The Battlegrounds is designed as an engaging encounter that includes a variety of artifacts, video re-enactments, interactive components, audio narratives, and captivating video. The goal of this exhibit is to help you learn from those who lived through the Civil Rights movement, and were at the forefront of the movement. Visitors can take their time walking through this part of the tour, exploring anything that catches their attention.

 

Visitors will also be able to visit a few other permanent exhibits while they are in the museum. These include the AT&T Four and the F.W. Woolworth’s Lunch Counter. The International Civil Rights Center & Museum will also provide some options for year-round programming.  The year-round programming options includes lectures, cultural events, film screenings, and even workshops.

 

Tour Options

 

Visitors should consider one of the available tour options when they visit  the International Civil Rights Center & Museum. Many visitors choose to walk through the exhibits on their own, choosing the audio that interests them the most and going at their own speed. A guided tour is not necessary to enjoy the museum in this manner. You can check out one exhibit extensively or take the time to see all of them.

 

However; there are guided tours available to provide a new way of understanding this time in history and to provide new perspective from those who lived through it. The Museum offers two on-site options for tours, as well as an interactive virtual tour for any guest who is not able to make it the museum. The cost for a tour through the museum will vary depending on which one the guest chooses.
